English-speaking internship

Yilenia, “Rey Juan Carlos” University

Qualifications: BA in Translation and Interpreting

Language combinations: English – Spanish

I am 21 years old and I am from Madrid; I live in the south of the region and I study Translation and Interpreting at the “Rey Juan Carlos” University (Móstoles Campus), where I have acquired knowledge in several translation specialities, including biohealth, literature, audiovisuals and sworn translation. My language combinations are EN<>ES, DE>ES, although I have also translated texts from Portuguese and Italian into Spanish,  and I speak a little bit of Catalan.

At school and high school I excelled in the Humanities and Social Sciences subjects and, although I wasn’t always sure what I wanted to do, I always knew that languages were my strong asset, so the career chose me more than I chose it.

Even so, all beginnings are complicated and it was hard for me to feel that Translation was for me. I finally realised that, of all the things I wanted to do, Translation stood out. That’s why I didn’t hesitate to find out a little more about what goes on behind the scenes in the sector.

I contacted several companies to find out if they had internship programmes, but most of them did not respond, so I went to my university’s internship platform, read the offer, did some research about the company, signed up and, sooner than expected, they contacted me.

<< I have improved my teamwork skills as well as my organisational skills “

Of course the team, which has been extremely friendly and professional, gave me all the help and materials I needed from the beginning, so I had no problems adapting to the dynamics of the company in a short time. Even so, the working environment is in a perfect balance that allows me to work in a pleasant, relatively calm (as much as the deadlines of some projects allow) and productive way.

At Clinter, I have improved my teamwork skills as well as my organisational skills with regards to projects. In addition, I have translated documents of different types. I have also worked with tools that I didn’t know before, such as ABBYY or Gespoint, which have made my work much easier.

Although it is true that when I came in I was quite nervous as I did not know what the company would be like and what tasks I would have to carry out, my expectations have been significantly exceeded, as I did not expect to learn so much, not only from my own mistakes, but also from the explanations of all the staff. That is why I would definitely recommend enjoying the internship at Clinter.
