When is a sworn translation of a National Identity Card required?
All Spaniards aged 14 or over who are resident in Spain or abroad, but move to Spain for a period of more than six months, must obtain their DNI (Spanish National identity Card).
A sworn translation of a national identity card is necessary in many situations.
- A sworn translation of a national identity card issued in any foreign country. In Spain, it is a requirement in order to carry out procedures such as:
- Registration in the Municipal Registry of Residence
- Applying for a residence permit
- Applying for a work permit
- Applying for a visa
- Registering a marriage celebrated abroad in Spain
- Legalising a divorce that has been processed abroad in Spain
- Sworn translation of a Spanish DNI to carry out different procedures outside of Spain, such as:
- Applying for a visa
- Adoption procedures
- Taking out health insurance
- Registering a marriage held abroad in Spain
- Legalising a divorce that has been processed abroad in Spain
These sworn translations must be translated by translators appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to guarantee their veracity and legality before any official body.
These must include the stamp and signature of the sworn translator appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Sworn Translator is therefore legally responsible for the accuracy of the content of the translation in relation to the original document.
